Best Movie Sagas You Can Watch in One Weekend
Okay so we all know the staple sagas, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Star wars. Those are great and if you haven’t seen them you should. But what are some of the best movie sagas that don’t get as much love that we’ve enjoyed a lot and you can watch on your next binge weekend?
1. Maze Runner
We just finished watching this not long before typing out this list. We both read the books when we were young and seeing it come to life on the screen was like seeing a dream come true. Sure, movies can’t compare to imagination, but they did a good job.
2. Spider Man
- Spider-Man (2002)
- Spider-Man 2 (2004)
- Spider-Man 3 (2007)
The original Spider-man trilogy holds a special place in my heart. Watching Tobey Maguire do flips and stunts and stuff makes me feel like a kid again. Even in the third movie he did a great job, just a victim of writing. What an enjoyable trilogy.
3. Batman Begins
- Batman Begins (2005)
- The Dark Knight (2008)
- The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
By far the best version of Batman (I think). Dark and gritty, with Christian Bale as the Bat, anything was possible. And boy did he deliver. All three of these movies get an A+ and if you haven’t seen them, put them on your list now and watch them soon.
4. Terminator
- The Terminator (1984)
- Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
- Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)
Another sage who’s last few movies really didn’t hold up to the first ones, but the first three are a blast to watch (haha). The first movies that I know Arnold from, and definitely some movies that I’m gonna keep watching for decades to come. If you watch with kids, remember to cover their eyes for that one scene in the first movie.
5. Mission Impossible
- Mission: Impossible (1996)
- Mission: Impossible 2 (2000)
- Mission: Impossible III (2006)
- Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol (2011)
- Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation (2015)
- Mission: Impossible Fallout (2018)
This is one saga I don’t care if some entries are bad, I enjoyed them all. Do they all deserve oscars? Nah, but just turn your brain off, and enjoy the action and fights and have a good time. Tom Cruise does a great job and does a lot more stunts than most actors.
6. Matrix
- The Matrix (1999)
- The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
- The Matrix Revolutions (2003)
There’s lots of people who say the last movie in this trilogy ruins the rest of it, but who cares what they think? It’s got karate, guns, and Keanu Reeves. Sit back and enjoy the action in this timeless classic.
7. Jurassic Park
- Jurassic Park (1993)
- The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1995)
- Jurassic Park III (2001)
A staple from childhood, dinosaurs and early CGI come together to make this amazing trilogy. Still relevant today with a wonderful world that’s still having movies made about it, haven’t we all imagined what we’d do if dinosaurs started roaming the earth again?
8. Pirates of the Caribbean
- Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
- Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006)
- Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2007)
My eyes are always glued to the screen when this trilogy comes on. None of that half watching, half scrolling instagram. I’ve only got eyes for Captain Jack Sparrow and his witty one-liners.
9. X-Men
- X-Men (2000)
- X-Men 2 (2003)
- X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
Underrated at the time of the original release, but they’ve still been making X-Men movies since. The first three It passes the test of time and it passes as one of my favorite movie sagas. (Although the Last Stand movie was partially lacking) I still enjoy seeing Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and the other mutants in whatever movies they’re put in now, like in deadpool.
10. Hannibal Lecter
- The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
- Hannibal (2001)
- Red Dragon (2002)
This is a Trilogy I love and it’s one of my top 5 of best movie sagas. Why do women always love stories and documentaries about murderers? My husband asked me, so funny. Anthony Hopkins does a phenomenal job and deserved the Oscar he was awarded for 16 minutes of screen time on Silence of the Lambs. Silence of the Lambs is also one of the only three movies to win Oscars for Best Film, Director, Screenplay, Actor and Actress. Mighty impressive resume.
