Our Pantry Renovation
Revamping and updating certain spaces in your home is not just about aesthetics; it’s about making things better. Sometimes, a fresh look can breathe new life into a space, creating a more enjoyable and functional environment. Whether it’s a kitchen, bathroom, living room, or pantry, renovating allows you to adapt to changing needs, improve efficiency, and enhance the overall vibe of your home.
why is It good having a pantry?
Having a pantry is like having a kitchen superhero. It keeps your food organized, makes cooking a breeze, and helps stuff last longer. Plus, when you can, why not make it look good too? A cool-looking pantry not only makes your kitchen stylish but also turns cooking into a fun experience.
It’s not just about keeping up with trends; it’s about creating a space that suits your lifestyle. It’s about making your house a more comfortable and beautiful place to live. And with the intent of making things beautiful but also functional for us, one of the first things we renovated after moving to this house was the pantry.
how we renovated our pantry?
It was fairly simple; there was no plumbing work to do and we decided to keep the original lighting. That means we didn’t have to worry about any electric work either. I came up with the design and dimensions I wanted, and it was my husband’s job to make that happen. We were able to reuse a lot of the original material and didn’t have to spend much on the plywood or brackets, both of which we got from Home Depot. Quick side note, there’s a difference between plywood, particle wood, and OSB. Of the three, plywood is stronger and what I recommend.
Also we wanted to keep the shelves deep, close to 16 inches, so they could hold more. Also the horizontal shelves on the left side run through the boxes. Meaning the vertical divisions could rest on top and gain a lot more strength. The only tools we used for this was a Ryobi drill, circular saw, 23 gauge nail gun, and a multi-tool.
What we would have done differently?
This was the first carpentry job that Andrew did, and looking back there are plenty of things we’d like to change. For starters he would have made the joining of the two shelves in the corner more simple, fill it with bondo and sand it down to give it a seamless connection.
On the right hand side next to the wall he says he should have chopped that better to fit snug to the wall. For better support we should have run the support strip all the way across and pushed the brackets out by putting that support strip all the way underneath. Here’s a reference of what we did with the support vs. how we would do it now.
And if you want to save some money in your DIY projects you can get one of their greatly discounted kits, like the Cordless 6-Tool Combo Kit. After almost two years we’re very happy with the new pantry and have had no issues with it fitting everything we want it to.

So, it’s been two years since we got our pantry in order, and let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer. No more hunting for that elusive spice or dealing with expired snacks buried in the back. We put in the effort, set a budget, and now? Well, we don’t have to do a thing – it practically runs itself.
Having an organized pantry isn’t just about neat shelves; it’s about a stress-free kitchen life. Trust me, I’ve been there. So, if you’re on the fence, just go for it! Your future self will thank you for the smoother, easier days ahead.
Just saved this so I can work on my pantry next year!
Gonna save this for when I remake my closet. Not the same but close enough.
