We just recently did a gallery wall in our living room, and it really spruced up that dead space in our wall. A gallery wall is like a personalized art show in your own home, where every piece tells a story and reflects your individual style. It’s more than just decor, it’s a creative canvas that brings life to any room.
START WITH THE FRAMES

Plus, it’s incredibly flexible, allowing you to experiment with different layouts and arrangements to suit your taste and space. Not only does it showcase your favorite pieces, but it also keeps them organized in a stylish and visually appealing way. In essence, a gallery wall is a reflection of your personality, making any space feel uniquely yours.

PICK THE RIGT ART COMBO for your gallery wall
The tips I find most helpful when it comes to gallery walls is to have a few larger pieces, but a wide range of sizes so you can mix up the frames. Unless you are going for an specific look that is completely intentional and you end up using same frames and mats for all of them.
A theme is always nice, because it makes everything looks more cohesive and when creating a more curated and vintage vibe you can hang the art asymmetrically. It not supposed to be perfect, especially when you are trying to have a gallery wall with an eclectic style.
Framebridge, Mixtiles, Artfully Walls, Desenio are some great places that offers not only art but also a variety of frames that you can customize, choose sizes or make your own. And most of them are pretty affordable too.
a BEAUTIFUL BUT FUNcTIONAL gallery wall
Another tip is using mats, which is also a great way to make the gallery more interesting. These pieces can have a vintage look which is another vibe you can go for. Another thing is that pictures should be hung at eye level, and like furniture most of people get the size wrong. With galleries, one of the most common mistake is how people hang it. The exception is if you’re anchoring your art with a couch or a dresser.
So when hanging a gallery wall, start by planning your layout on the floor, experimenting with different arrangements and taking photos for reference. Create paper templates of each frame to map out where you want to hang them on the wall. the secret is wrapping paper. It’s large enough and cheap, too! Begin hanging from the center and work outward, maintaining consistent spacing between frames for a cohesive look.

12 Pack Picture Mats | $31

ADD A VINTAGE FRAME, OR TWO
Aim to hang artwork at eye level for optimal viewing. Mix different sizes and shapes of artwork for visual interest, and use larger pieces as anchors while filling in around them with smaller pieces. Ensure frames are securely attached to the wall using appropriate hanging hardware based on weight. Step back frequently to assess your progress and make adjustments as needed. Remember to have patience and enjoy the process, as creating a gallery wall is a fun and rewarding project that allows you to showcase your personal style, and is something you can tackle in a weekend.
